19 Fourteas Tearoom

Linda and I excitedly awaiting our 'high tea'

Along with cooking and writing, the thing I really enjoy about blogging is reviewing, be it a restaurant, café, pub, shop or product. Today I was in for a delightful surprise when my friend announced she had booked 'high tea' at a tearoom she had discovered and knew I would love!

We arrived outside a quaint little tearoom whose windows were full of memorabilia from the 1940's.

As we stepped inside we were transported back in time, I can only describe the surroundings as an 1940's emporium, the setting evoked wartime nostalgia to the befitting strains of Vera Lynn's 'we'll meet again'

The very bubbly 'Betty and Doris' ushered us to our table and were soon brandishing us with our 'high tea'

Afternoon tea is so quintessentially English and tearooms have become very en vogue, however, many of them are more style over substance! Not 19 fourteas! We were served with a three tiered cake stand choc full of the squishiest, fresh bread sandwiches filled with smoked salmon and cream cheese and egg and cress. Boiled eggs and salad garnish, vol au vents and canapes, little tarts and cakes and a steaming pot of delicious loose leaf tea covered in a hand knitted tea cosy.

As I took the last bite of my fruit tart lo and behold a plate of scones with cream and jam and some strawberry shortbread arrived on our table!

Another pot of tea was in order although etiquette dictates 'tea should not be drunk to wash down food, rather it is to be sipped delicately.'

Over in the corner Jack (as in Union Jack) kitted out in his authentic uniform right down to his gas mask, would probably have blushed at the amount we consumed were it not for the fact that he were only a dummy.

I had to include this gorgeous photo!

                                                           MOTHER'S PRIDE

Replete (well actually......stuffed!) We paid the bill which was amazingly good value at £14 for two! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and most certainly 'we'll meet again!'

Not to be beaten! Finishing every last morsel.

-Winston Churchill
